Austin Girl Pilates
"You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions." – Joseph H. Pilates
Joseph H. Pilates developed the Pilates machine and method through a lifetime of practice, observation and study of the body and how it functions.
"Contrology", as Pilates named it, is the art and science of coordinated body/mind/spirit development through slow, gentle movements and under strict control of the will.
Pilates is a combination of the essence of Eastern and Western philosophies - focusing on the mind and body as one. It emphasizes strength and movement while maintaining a calm, centered whole; with breathing being an essential component.
Susan calls it conscious movement.
Every step you take - you can focus on the extension and placement of your limbs and the precision that you bring to that movement - with full use of the breath.
The breath stimulates your innermost core - the multifidus. The multifidus are the tiny muscles surrounding your spine. When those muscles are activated through proper posture, connection and breath, the core is being strengthened.
Your physical strength will improve in a very unusual way. You will build strength from the inner to the outer parts of your physique. Pilates is the only exercise that builds strength from the inside out. You will develop long, lean muscles, resulting in a more svelte physique.
You will enhance your sense of physical grace, fluid movement, you will become long, lean and elegant. No matter what your body type, you will find yourself standing taller and maintaining better posture in every thing you do. Conscious movement! Young or old, injured or healthy, it will change your life.
